The YMCA of Bradford County was founded in 1996. Thanks to the generosity and community mindedness of the Towanda Borough we opened our doors in the “old SCI building” in Towanda in January 2000. The first few years for the YMCA in Bradford County were rocky. After much deliberation it was decided that we would become a branch YMCA. The Williamsport Area YMCA was chosen and the merger became official in 2004. The new group of YMCAs became known as the River Valley Regional YMCA Association. Also at this time a new executive director was brought on. A full time Program director was hired in September 2004 and another full time staff was hired in September 2007.

Since then membership has increased to over 700 active members. Our programs have grown exponentially in both number and participation. Our association implemented a new software system in June 2008 which allows us to better track programs, membership, donations and much more. A major renovation of the gymnasium roof structure and locker rooms was completed in 2005. An entranceway, multi-purpose room, and cardio room were added on in 2010. Additional renovations completed since include a sound proof safety wall and new heating and AC in the gymnasium and weight room.

The Bradford County Branch YMCA became a 24 hour facility in January 2020 giving our members the opportunity to work out when it was convenient for them. In 2021 a Gymnasium upgrade was completed including a new floor, energy efficient lighting, and new ceiling tiles.
